Windows system setup chassis intrusion

I have a latitude D laptop that has the following message appear in Windows XP intermittantly. This typically does NOT indicate a hardware failure. Contact your helpdesk if you did not personally open your chassis. Isn't this usually a desktop PC problem?

I've been into Bios and there are no security settings for intrusion etc Like I say it isn't affecting the use of the laptop, just irritates one of my users. Thanks :. Well, I haven't seen this problem personally I'd look for the existence of a new BIOS release. Read the release notes to see if your problem might be fixed. Failing that, I'd start looking for malicious software and making sure that the laptop is properly put together--all screws tightened, latches fastened, etc.

I've never heard of a laptop that had a chassis intrusion sensor, but it wouldn't be hard to implement. Since many laptops have removable keyboards, one could be under there and subject to triggering while the keyboard is being typed on. I also never heard of Windows XP having a message for this.

Most likely this PC has an "alarm" that goes off when the cover is removed. You need to go into the bios setup when you boot and clear it. To go into the bios setup, yo typically press F2 or F10 when prompted after booting up, before the operating system comes up.

In the bios settings look for security settings, or possibly something under advanced settings, depending on the manufacturer. If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
